PLANNING OUR FAMILY-FRIENDLY TRIP TO ROME, ITALY – THIS SPRING.

Next Wednesday we’ll be off flying to Rome. Yeay! We haven’t been out of the country for almost two years!

We did planned to go last October, but we were let down by Monarch Air bankruptcy. What great timing that was? We got our flight money back in voucher form but we’ve lost our insurance money of-course which was rather expensive as we bought it as a package with lastminute.com. Next time, I think I’ll need to do a bit more research on flight shopping for sure.

Anyhow, we couldn’t wait til October, so we’ve chosen to go to Rome this Spring instead. Spring seem to be the perfect time, as the kids’s Spring break seem to also fall on my birthday as well. Yes, please I’m dream for a real Italian coffee to accompanied my birthday breakfast please.

ACCOMODATION

We decided to book an Airbnb apartment. We are a newbie to this, and is rather excited to explore, traveling out this way as it is way cheaper than the usual hotel. With renting out an apartment, we feel more at ease and rather more like home. After going through so many reviews, I’ve chosen the one that is close to the main train station: Roma Termini, and that the sound of our host was the best amongst available at the time. If you are a newbie to Airbnb too, you can receive a £25 off your first adventure as well! Happy Days! Happy Holidays! I say! ✈️ 🚢

According to me friends, they’ve said that the average daytime temperatures in Spring in April is around 20° C, but it can get a little chilly at night as it can drop to about 8°C. I’m praying for a some sunshine more than rain when we are there.

THE ITINERARY

Wed 11 – Our flight leavings late in the afternoon, this will mean we’ll be arriving at late at night. This flight will be a little rough as it’s our kids’ bedtime. So hopefully, they will get some sleep on the plane and don’t moan too much when we touch down. We decided to book a Private Night Transfer from Fiumicino Airport to Rome. I’ve tried working out every pennies, and I think it is worth it. In hindsight, even though it is just a little bit higher than the speed train into the city, and then we’ll either have to get a taxi there, or a metro or a bus in order to get to our accommodation, getting there straight from the airport seem to be less of a headache when you are travelling with kids.

Thurs 12 – We’d like to thank Overome Tour for inviting us to review two of their tours. So do keep an eye open for these reviews in the coming weeks. We are so extremely excited about these two tours!

For the rest of the week we decided to explore a little bit more of Italy whilst we are there.

.

Fri 13: Leave Rome for a day in Pisa via Italia famous fast speed train – the trenitalia. I think all we actually wanted to do was to climb up the tower. So just a purchase of the Leaning Tower of Pisa entry ticket would be good enough. There has been many reviews that buying a full tour ticket wouldn’t be worth while as there is not much else to see other than the tower itself. And yep, we are going to be one of those annoying tourists that will be posing pushing the tower as well. lol!
We are also hoping to meet up with our friends for an evening meal. Hopefully, this will keep our energy up from climbing up the tower earlier the day! lol!

Sat 14: We are back in Rome to see the Vatican Museums Highlights in the morning, and we hope to visit Borghese Garden and have our lunch there and wander around getting utterly lost elegantly in this enormous famous garden.

Sun 15: It is one of my dream to be biking with my family when we are in another country. I think it is a must, especially when I see lots of gorgeous photos my fellow #ExplorerKids IG contributors about their bike ride in Appian Way and around the Aqueducts Park.

Mon 16: We are off to Pompeii. Pompeii has something Ethan has been reading at school, plus learning it through Go Jetters! It would be so wonderful to be able to take him there and see the real deal. Personally, I think it would blow his mind! lol! With Pompeii being such a massive archaeological area, and our last day in Italy, plus it’s my birthday, we just wanted to take out time to chill out and soak in everything we can, I decided to  just purchase the entrance tickets for now.
Again, we hope to get back in time to meet up with our friends for an evening meal and my birthday celebration too.

Tues 17: Our flight doesn’t leave until late at night, so we have the whole day to do a little chillaxing a little bit more, perhaps eating some more of those delicious gelato and pizza. Other than that, I’m not sure what we are going to do yet.

We went to Rome in August last year and although it was hot we were careful and went out early in the morning or late in the afternoon which is perfect especially late afternoon as the sites were not so busy.

    1. That’s a great idea. I think being an early bird helps a lot, we found our tour at the COLOSSEUM was less busy bright early in the morning and gradually it got a little more busy later. With this tour, I think it was better for us to have waited otherwise we could have become lost in the mass crowds.
