Having failure attempts in entering Temple of Emerald Buddha & The Grand Palace we decided to head somewhere where there is less busy and more relaxing. Feeding the turtles at Wat Prayoon flashed to my mind.
The last time I’ve been to this place was with Ethan when he was around 1 year old – when I was still able to carry him around on a baby carrier. I called it the Turtle Temple, but actually it is adjacent to Wat Prayoon – which I’ve never been in. It is pretty from street view – but one can only take so much temple visits during one’s holiday – perhaps, another time. Since then, the place has been renovated. I remembered when I came with Ethan it was more of a Jungle like where turtles are free to rom about through lots of shrubs and grown tree and underlying stream – with bridges that we can cross over.
This time round – the jungle has been eradicated and replaced with a concrete island, filled with shrines in the middle. Though it is decorated with lovely plants and pretty flower – it still feels very much like a concrete island. The turtles have been habitating the moat. There is now a main balcony for visitors to feed the turtles, though you can walk around the island. It does get pretty hot and so I would advice to go in the afternoon around 2:30pm onwards when the balcony would be in the shade, but then there will be more visitors in the evening. More kids from local schools nearby and couples who just want a sweet moment or two – yet it is a very peaceful place to be.
I asked the keeper there, they said that they jungle was a mosquitos heaven. This way is better as it is easier to keep and clean the moat when necessary.
There is also a Free library box which I rather love. It reminded me of the Little Free Library back in the UK.
Yes, this is the very famous Turtle Temple I have been rambling about post after post where Ethan has accidentally knocked my mobile into the moat and all my beautiful photos and video have gone – FOREVER! We did tried to fish it out – but it was never retrieved. Oh my life! I was a little sad, but Ethan was very apologetic straightaway. How can I be angry at him? Just thank goodness it wasn’t my camera as well! Hahaha

There is no entrance fee. It is Free for all! There is also a little stall at the entrance which you can buy some food to feed the turtles and fish at the moat. The options are morning glory vegetable, bananas, long beans and fish food. They are 20 Baht per tub – about 30 pence.
I have to say I am in great debt to the store lady. For some reasons my mumnesia seem to have strike and I have forgotten my purse at the store. She came running after me after I left. My oh my – that was a close one. I offered her money but she wouldn’t accept. She is such a wonderful lady indeed.
I would recommend this place to anyone who just want to get away from the Bangkok Concrete Jungle and have a moment with oneself. It is also a great place to relax with kids and mingle with the local school kids too. They are just so funny and fun to be around.

Looks like a lovely place to visit, less crowded especially if you have kids. Plus it’s a great experience for kids to feed turtles as well. Ethan & Evelyn seemed to have loads of fun doing it. Beautiful photos too! #FabFridayPost
It is a very chill place. The kids have had a wonderful time there. 🙂
I love this and wish I could bring Little and Big along. We go on vacation to a little place off of North Carolina, Bald Head Island, that is a turtle sanctuary. It is so much fun to see the turtles, alligators, foxes, birds. There are no cars on the island and little light at night so as not to disturb the turtle migration process. Heavenly! Beautiful photos as alwasy Su! #FabFridayPost
Wow! Bald Head Island sound like a paradise. I would love to take the kids to see the turtle migration. I saw it on Discovery Channel once, but in Australia. It would certainly be a dream come true! I want to go to America now! 🙂
Su this looks amazing, you are making me think of returning to Thailand for a holiday with my son! He loves all animals and would adore something like this. I’m so sorry to hear about your mobile phone and you nearly lost your purse…one of those days! Tor xx #FabFridayPost
Haha! Yep, it was certainly one of those days – but some luck on my side – thank goodness I didn’t lose my purse too! The kids absolutely love the place. I’m sure your boy would love it too. xx
Looks like a lovely place and sounds like you have had lots to see and do during your visit! #fabfridaypost
It was great. Perfect for kids. 🙂
What a beautiful place to visit!
And you reminded me about the free library box I spotted just down the street a couple of weeks ago. I read about them a while back and was so excited to see one in real life. I have lots of books laying around that I’m done with. I have to take a stroll over there and get involved. Would be a good walk for mommy and baby too.
It is such a lovely place. Yes, I used to live near one too back in London before we moved to Hitchin. It is such a great idea – isn’t it. Hope you find some good reads too. 🙂
It looks so beautiful there, I’d love to visit one day and see such a different culture #FabFridaypost
It is a lovely and quiet place here. Somewhere we can definitely chill.
It looks a really beautiful place to have a little bit of peace. I bet it was great that the kids could have a bit of space to be themselves. #fabfridaypost
Yes, the kids love running about and I love the peace. 🙂 xx
