Creative ideas to refresh your child’s bedroom

This is a collaborative post.

Children’s bedrooms are one of the hardest rooms in the house to update. Trying to come up with creative ideas that will please you and your child can be tricky. If you’re thinking of giving your child’s bedroom a refresh, here’s some ideas that could keep everyone happy.

Imaginative wallpaper

Why not decorate with wallpaper or a mural to spark and encourage your child’s imagination? When you’re wallpapering a room for children, choose soft rather than bold patterns. Woodland animals, clouds, and botanical themes all work well.

A creative wall

If you’ve got a budding artist on your hands, then a space for your child to express this is a great idea. You could use chalkboard paint on the walls, so they can draw and redraw pictures to their heart’s content. Or for something more permanent, a gallery of your child’s art is a fun alternative.

A reading den

If you’ve got a bookworm in your family, or you’re keen to get your kid reading more, then creating a dedicated space is a great idea. A reading den can easily be made from a children’s play tent filled with cushions, throws and books. Adding fairy lights or a reading lamp will make a nice, practical
addition.

Colour-coded shelves

Windows don’t have to be plain in a kid’s bedroom. Choose pretty curtains or blinds, add brightly painted shutters, or apply some patterned window film to the glass. There’re lots of ways to get creative with window dressings.

A multi-purpose rug

If you think the bedroom floor could do with a bit of a refresh, then adding a rug is a simple way to add colour. Rugs can help add warmth, protect the floor, and reduce noise. But most importantly a rug creates a nice soft place to play. Children’s rugs come in lots of shapes too, so shop around for something fun.

Child-friendly storage

Adding child-friendly storage can help stop a bedroom becoming too messy. Keeping toy storage at a low level makes it easy to reach. And adding wheels or casters to furniture means you can pull it out at playtime and push it out of the way for bedtime.
