It feels like it has been century since we’ve had heavy snow in Hitchin. When people say there will be snow this weekend, I just brushed it off “Yeah! – As if! We don’t get snow in Hitchin. Everywhere else on the Island of United Kingdom – yes – but not Hitchin”. It turned out – I was wrong!
Ethan came down stairs, excitedly with the biggest smile on his face. “Look outside the window Mummy! Look! There’s snow everywhere!”. He withdrawn the curtains and there it was 3 inches of snow laid across our garden. The spectacle was quite stunning! I feel like a kid all over again!
Like any excited do, I told the kids they can go outside as soon as they finished breakfast, and my goodness I have never seen them ate so fast! Here is out little outing after breakfast. If you are a follower on Facebook then you’ll probably already have seen this – if not then here it is.
Later the day, we went to see our friends who came all the way from Italy and had a lunch at our local and lovely pub, The Millstream. And the kids went out to play in the snow again in their beer garden. It was such a beautiful pub, but typical me I’ve forgot my camera. All I took on my phone that came out nice looking was my roast lunch. I’m telling you I haven’t had a decent lunch like this a long time and it was definitely the dish I would recommend that would awesomely warmed up appetite if you ever stopped by.
The next day all schools in Hitchin announced that they were closed for the day. Ethan was supposed to have his school play any my O.H. took the day off just for this. But that’s okay, because this means he’ll get to spend some quality time with the kids, which doesn’t happened often enough, especially playing in snow.
Even though the snow seem to be melting away a little over night which has turned into muddy slosh more than anything, there were still enough snow for us to do a little sledging upon the little hill in our local park. We called it Sloshing.
Did you have snow where you are? Did you go Sloshing like us? Let us know in the comment below we love to hear all about it. 🙂

I still have a sledge in our shed from when our kids were younger than yours, but it has still never seen any snow. I have so jealous of your snow day yesterday. What fun and a great way to remember the start of the Christmas season. I hope it isn’t too icy on the roads for you today. #ExplorerKids
It does put us in such an exciting mood for before Christmas come. E&E loves the snow. You’ll never know you might have a white Christmas after all. 🙂 xx
Now a white Christmas here would be quite something! Happy Christmas to you all.
Thank you for popping over to #CountryKids
Aww this is so magical Su we didn’t get as such as you but made the most of it. And like you I was so glad we did. I love the sloshing haha and you had a huge snow balls, brilliant! you can’t beat it can you! Magical memories that hopefully your kids will pass down to theirs Mandy xxx #explorerkids

It’s such fun to get snowfall – the kids love it so much it is magical. Sarah #ExplorerKids
It was such good fun! Even for me too. 😉 x
We got close to a foot of snow this weekend and my kids were thrilled! It did rain on Tuesday so some of it is gone but with little flurries here and there each day they’re staying quite excited and hoping for a white Christmas. It’s been years since we’ve had a cold, white Christmas and I guess they miss that.
Oh Wow! We are hoping for a white Christmas too. Same here. Actually, I don’t think I ever had a white Christmas… I think there has been snowfall during Christmas Eve but it never stayed… Finger Crossed this time. xx
Nope! No snow over here in sunny Malaysia where it’s summer perpetually! Dang!
Love the photos. So much fun!
BTW, I’m following your lovely blog via G+
Wow! I wish I was in Malaysia… all that delicious food! xx
Your snow looks better than ours. We did have snow on Monday but it didn’t settle thickly on the ground as it had rained so it ended up just freezing and turning to ice. I love it when it does snow properly. Sarah #ExplorerKids
Oh no! We had to make our way to school on Wednesday. I took the bike – didn’t cycle it though – just for transport Evelyn on the back seat and walk it to school. Evelyn said she like snow but not when it is skiddy. lol! Take care over there. xx
Yes we had some snow on Sunday and quite enjoyed it . We build a lovely snowman .
How lovely! I wish we’d have a white Christmas too. That would be so magical! x
We’ve had snow but today it’s raining! Forecast for the weekend so we’ll be out having fun too
Oh no! I guess you can play with big puddles too. 🙂 x
snow when they are at school, too dark when the come home – not much hope for the weekend
Oh no! That’s a bummer. Hope they get a chance to play some snow at school too. 🙂
We had loads of snow this week in Chester – it was a winter wonderland
Oh Wow! I want to go there!! <3
for the first time for my 5 year old we were able to take her sledging, she loved it, as did my other 2 who had seen snow before, in fact the only ones who did not enjoy the snow, were my 3 collies, who refused to go out in it
Oh Wow! It’s wonderful isn’t it. Aww… I bet in time they’ll grow to love it soon. 🙂 xx
Yep had snow but not as much as my sister who has a farm on top of a hill in the Peak District
Oh WOW! She must have the most Amazing view! So jealous! lol! x
It was amazing for my 1 and a half year old to play ion the snow for the first time.
Wonderful! I love hearing all these lovely first time stories. I hope you took lots of photos too. 🙂 xx
We haven’t had any snow yet! Fingers crossed we get some over christmas!
Oh! How exciting! We will keep the finger crossed for you also. 🙂 x
I live in Yorkshire and never get good snow, really wish we did.
Really! I am so surprised, as Yorkshire seem to be on of the highest point. When we went in late Summer two years ago to a friend’s wedding. It was freezing! lol! xx
We only had a thin layer of snow in Lancaster, my grandchildren still tried to have a snowball fight though
Aww…. bless them. I can make anything. 😉 xx
Love your little children having such fun!
Thanks Sally. They love playing in the snow.
I’m gutted we’re right by the sea so we never get snow
Oh no! But I get jealous of you to be by the sea when its Summer though. 🙂 x
You lucky lucky things! We only had a fine dusting of snow here which turned to sleet quickly. Love the term Sloshing and it certainly looked like you had fun x #ExplorerKids x
Ah… no! Sleet looks pretty though. Finger crossed we all get a white Christmas too. 🙂 xx
Merry Christmas and a happy New year to all of you. xXx
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and family too! 🙂 xXx
The kids had lots of fun. We had a lot of snow and went sledging which was awesome
Aww… how lovely! They do love sledging don’t they. Even I do too – never mind the kids! lol! x
that’s a big snowball you are standing on
I know! lol! I think someone did a giant snowman the day before and the head fell off during the rainy night. It is impressive isn’t it. 🙂
Mu daughter was exactly the same. Superb excited and had to go out as soon as she saw the snow. My son on the other end waited the afternoon to enjoy it.
Awww… bless them. Kids really do loves snow don’t they. & I do too – never mind the kids! lol! x
We love snow
So do we. 🙂 x
We had a lot of snow on the Sunday but Monday the kids went to school (6 and 10 miles away) as normal and my daughter even went on a school trip! She said she was freezing all day though, bless her!
Awww… bless her. Our kids’ schools were closed on Monday. In fact, all schools in Hitchin were closed that Monday. Hope she enjoyed her school trip. xx
We got a little snow here in Surrey but nothing too heavy. More inconvenient than anything else having to negotiate black ice to get to and from work.
Oh dear. That doesn’t sound good. It can be a pain isn’t it. Our kids’ schools were closed so we didn’t need to worry. Hope you were okay. x
Oh looks like you had a fabulous day in the snow and those snowballs – they are absolutely humongous! Glad you got some snow too – in and around London it was a bit variable wasn’t it. We had a decent amount although it melted quick #countrykids
lol! I know! It was there like this when we arrived. I think someone must have built it the day before and the head fell off at night time when it was rainy. Let’s hope for some more snow on Christmas Day. It would be so magical! 🙂 xx
We only had some thin snow
Oh no! Let’s hope for some snow on Christmas Day. It would be so magical!
I am really looking forward to have snow during Christmas holidays! We had little last weekend but actually got it only during our trip back home and the traffic was crazy.
Oh no!! Driving in snow is such a pain. Hopefully, we’ll get a white Christmas! 🙂 x
Sloshing – what a great term! We had snow here in Ireland too early last week, but the kids only got to play in it for an hour on Tuesday afternoon because we all were sick at the weekend!
#ExplorerKids
Oh no!! I hope you are all better now. Hopefully, we’ll get a white Christmas this year! xx
The snow was amazing wasn’t it? We had lots of snow and a couple of snow days too! My daughter had the best time. It looks like you had a wonderful time i the snow. I really need to get my daughter a sledge and fingers crossed for more snow! #CountryKids
Snow is so magical when you have kids, isn’t it? We had great fun in the snow too. Glad you all got the chance to play, and just look at the size of those snowballs!! #countrykids
We didn’t get any! Monkey was so disappointed. Looks like yours had a great time I can not believe how big those snow boulders are! I am hoping we may get more since its gone on his wish list for Father Christmas¡ #CountryKids
I’m so jealous of all that lovely snow! We only got a sprinkling here and my little ones were praying so hard for it they settle! #countrykids
