As we are such a total novice at family camping, I didn’t really know what to bring with us. So I’ve ordered the 3 essentials from Mountain Warehouse. I think these will get us through our very first family camping trip at the Big Family Festivals.

I know, I’ve said before I was going to do a fire camp style but with all the rain we had it was no fun, but luckily this stove saved the day! I mean, with all the heat it can generate. It was so nice and warm.

I bought the gas canisters separately from local Halfords Store. I bought 4 canisters for the price of 3, (£1 each). Thinking that we would need a canister a day, so I bought four just incase. But by the end of our trip, I had a closer look at the canister and it said 1 canister should last about 1 hour. But we had used about 1 and half canister for the whole trip! This is such a great value as we were using a lot of heat to keep ourselves warm.

2) Family Camping Cookset – Charcoal

– was £39.99 Save 55% Now £17.99

I found these are very useful and compact. They are designed in the hard anodised aluminium. There are two saucepans and universal lid which are lightweight and durable. With folding silicone handles that are stackable composition. This is great for packing and travelling with. The Family Camping Cookset is just what you need for some outdoor eating at camping, festivals and general outdoor use.

2) Family Picnic Set – Patterned

– was £59.99 Save 55% Now £26.99

Description

  • Lightweight – Lightweight and durable, the holdall has a handy shoulder strap and carry handles
  • Dimensions – 49.5cm x 29cm x 30cm
  • Contents
    • Twelve piece stainless steel cutlery set
    • Four plates
    • Four wine glasses
    • Knife
    • Cutting board
    • Salt & pepper shakers

I absolutely love this Family Picnic Set. It has got everything that you need. It is not just the clever designed that I admire, it is very colourful, stylish and practical too. The perfect way to go picnicking. It is lightweight, so there is no issue carrying this to your ‘spot’. There is also internal cooler compartment keeping your food and drink chilled as you go.

This gives the kids much exciting to a “real” picnic (lots of mummy’s points here) with a myriad of utensils and pockets, the Family Picnic Set is a great idea for family days out and camping trips too. I must admit after our little camping trip, my kids have also been playing cafe with them too. I would highly recommend this picnic set to all!

So I guess we have survived through our very first family camping trip ever at the Big Family Festivals despite the heavy rain. Hoorah!

Nevertheless, I kept thinking what I actually should be bringing – food wise- to make our first family camping trip a little bit more special and more memorable for the whole family to enjoy. I have therefore asked for some tips from my fellows bloggers. Check out what they’ve said here: Eating Outdoor Tips For A More Memorable Family First Camping Trip.

Ooo I got my parents something very similar to the picnic set as they now have a caravan – I would say it was a hit! ☺ #snappedup

I am so not the camping type but I can remember my father using our camp stove and pots/ pans to cook up some very yummy dinners when he used to take us camping. These look fabulous.

    • 11/09/2017 / 11:26 am

Neither is my O.H., but I’m so made him! lol! I think its best to camp when dry – we went thorough rain non-stop! It was not so fun. But fun in a muddy way. lol!

These look great, so lovely to get back to nature and enjoy eating outdoors #ExplorerKIds

  5. 08/09/2017 / 12:56 pm

There is something so great about cooking and eating outside. I don’t think we managed enough of it this year

    • 11/09/2017 / 11:31 am

I’d love to go camping more, but its just the weather – so unpredictable! lol! x

  6. We also use a Campingaz stove when we go camping, and I love it! My only gripe with picnic sets such as this and family outdoor cooking sets is that they’re all designed for 4 people max, which means they never suit our family. #ExplorerKids

    • 11/09/2017 / 11:35 am

Campingaz stove are great aren’t they! I love it too! Oh yes, that is a little unconvenience, but I did pack extra plates and cutlery inside the bag too. Plus extra plastic cups at the side – just in case. 🙂 x

Wow that picnic set is amazing! We have camped out int eh garden once this summer to give the kids an idea of what it is like but haven’t thought about camping cooking! #snappedup

    • 11/09/2017 / 11:39 am

Me too! Oh yes! Good call! I will be doing a review about our camping lamp soon – so keep an eye out. 🙂 We did make a mistake of not taking enough warm clothes as thinking – oh its summer – but then it was pouring down all the way through the weekend. lol! So typical! lol! x

I had no idea that a camping stove could be so cheap. I keep avoiding camping as I assume it is going to cost loads to kit us out but it doesn’t look as if it needs to be that way. Mich x
