Top Family Holidays This Summer

With the children rapidly growing up and with them all at different ages, it can sometimes feel impossible to keep all the family happy. There are however some fantastic holidays for all the family, so here are our top recommendations to keep all the family happy this Summer.

Beach Holiday & Surf School

If you are hankering after a relaxing beach holiday somewhere peaceful, you are going to have to pull something else out of the bag to keep the kids happy. If you’re looking for a beach chill holiday, why not organise a surf school for the kids to keep them busy and happy and out of your hair so you can just focus on relaxing and getting through that great new book you’ve been looking forward to.

If you’re kids don’t fancy surfing, there are a wide range of beach sports and activities they can learn like paddle surfing, volleyball or even scuba diving. So before you commit to that beach holiday, check out the local summer schools available in that destination and research what things are happening there the children will enjoy. Talk them through the options to see what they would all prefer to make sure you are not going to have any reluctant kids dragging their feet off to a course they have no interest in.

A cruise is a great idea as there is something for everyone on a cruise. For younger children you have endless amounts of clubs, activities and sports that they can be getting involved in on a daily basis. For teenagers there are different sports and discos and fun activities like karaoke and cinema evenings. Cruises are an incredibly social holiday option for children and they are certain to have a new group of pals within the first day of boarding, which means you can then focus on the things that you want to do.

A cruise holiday offers just as many benefits to the adults as it does for the children. For parents feeling a little run down and exhausted, there are many spa, beauty and pampering facilities that will have you feeling indulged and fantastic in no time at all. The dining on cruises is also of a very high level and of course you get to explore several fabulous holiday destinations too. So if you’re considering a cruise make sure you do your homework. Check out some cruise reviews to make sure that you are finding the best package available for you and your family.

Adventure & Action Holidays

If your family is slightly more active and is looking for something a little more adrenaline fuelled and challenging than a beach or cruise holiday why not try something completely different that can have you all doing activities together.

Perhaps you all fancy heading out to into the great outdoors and enjoying a holiday in the countryside. The countryside is a fantastic place to holiday as a family, particularly when you have small children, as it is less chaotic and manic than a city break and usually it doesn’t involve the headache of flying, it is one of the most stress-free options out there. However keeping the children occupied and happy in the countryside is also a little bit tricker than in a city or beach holiday as you need to find the best things to do.

So why not organise a day canoeing or whitewater rafting, if your children are old enough, as a white knuckle experience that you can all share together as a family. Or perhaps you have all wanted to try rock climbing for a while, so why not look into rock climbing centres in the local area that you are travelling to and see what is available there for you and all the family.

Or you can keep it really simple and just organise a couple of light activities each afternoon. You could go for a countryside trek in the morning followed by a hearty pub lunch one day, then the kids can do what they like in the afternoon, before dinner. Another day perhaps you can hire a couple of tennis courts and have a couple of hours knocking a few balls around, followed by an evening at the cinema. The great thing about countryside holidays is that you choose the pace. If you want to have a really active and adrenaline fuelled day of rock climbing and whitewater rafting one day, followed by a picnic and a walk the next, then that is absolutely the reason you are in the countryside.

So what do you think of our suggestions? What do you fancy doing this Summer with your family?

A satisfying something we often think of should’ve, but often the price is prohibitive. But it’s there on the bucket list!
I agree about keeping activities to a minimum on holiday. We try not to do activity clubs either – we want to spend time with our kids as we both work!!

It’s tricky isn’t it. We want to spend time with our kids but also we want adults night too. I guess there is an option to balance that. Thank you for your comment.

We are going on our first cruise this summer with the family! Our kids are looking forward to the activities on the ship more than you could imagine! They’re reading up about princess cruise ships every day after school!

These are some great suggestions! I want to make it to the beach with my little one. We also have a HUGE music festival here in Milwaukee this weekend. My mom is coming down to go with us. It should be a blast. 🙂
    Enjoy your summer!

These all sound like so much fun! Well, except the cruise. I’m not a huge fan of boats and being stuck in the middle of the ocean. ha ha #fabfridaypost

    • 30/06/2017 / 7:39 pm

Oh yes! That does seem a little scary when you think of it like that. But I’ve never been on a cruise before and I definitely like to give it a try. x

We’ve been looking into a cruise vacation; I keep saying we’ll get passports and give it a try but I am so afraid that one of might kids might get seasick…

    • 01/07/2017 / 2:42 am

Oh no! Poor baby! I had a friend who also gets travel sick really badly. We just can’t go anywhere far. He would be sick all the time! I hope your little one will grow out of it soon. xx

Never really thought about taking children on cruise – so definitely food for thought there X #fabfridaypost

My kids are really active and would really benefit from some of these holiday activities. I’m sure they’d love to learn to surf or do some other watersports. Great ideas. #FabFridayPost

I’d love my son to do surf or other water sports too – perhaps, next year. x

  9. 02/07/2017 / 10:43 pm

All these sound lovely. 🙂 Not sure what we’re doing this summer but am sure we’ll find something.

    • 03/07/2017 / 11:00 am

I hope you’ll have a lovely Summer whatever you decided to do. xx

I’d love to try a cruise but my husband works on ships so taking a holiday on one would be his idea of hell. Other than that we live a good mix. We tend to go for a typical beach holiday every other year then stick closer to home and have lots of fun filled exploring days out the rest of the time x

    • 03/07/2017 / 11:06 am

Oh right! lol! I can see why. I love beach holiday – it is so peaceful. (Well… as peaceful as one can be with kids! lol!) xx

  11. 04/07/2017 / 1:13 am

I love the idea of a surf school it just sounds so amazing and appealing! #fabfridaypost

  12. 05/07/2017 / 11:18 am

I think as the kids get older we need to put in more action and energy burning fun as well as some down time. A little bit of everything suits us. #fabfridaypost

  13. We live on the seaside in Ireland, and we’re spending the summer in the French countryside where I’m from. I’m not one for city breaks, as I find cities way too stressful with 4 kids, but exploring the great outdoors with them is one of my favourite ways of relaxing. I’m afraid cruises wouldn’t do it for me – too much of an introvert to enjoy all the social interaction!
