#TennisForKids : FREE Tennis Lessons This Summer With LTA

Every time, we visit our local playground we would passed by a Tennis Court. Ethan would watched people play their games outside the court. I must admit sport is not cheap and my mummy guilt ride upon me – if only there would be FREE Tennis in this world.

Then an opportunity arises, I was contacted by Britmums – an invitation for Ethan to attend an Open Day to see if he likes tennis. I immediately accepted the invitation and booked the session online. I told Ethan about this opportunity and he just couldn’t wait for the day to come.

The sessions are organised by Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). #TennisForKids sessions take place from 22 April 2017. Anyone can sign up their 5-8 year olds for free sessions via the ClubSpark website. There are 20,000 places available across the country! A six week programme run by LTA qualified coaches. This is a course perfect for kids that are new to tennis.

We attended The King’s Club, Wimbledon Open Day on Saturday for a try out to see if Ethan likes it or not. It was a half hour session. I do believe other places does a longer session, but it wasn’t viable for us travel wise.

Ethan had two fantastic coaches. He has never picked up a racket before in his life. It was his very first time – ever. The coaches were very encouraging and had lots of patience for Ethan with full on smiles, cheers and High-Fives throughout the session. From warm-up circuits, to team work and finally trying to hit the tennis balls over the net for the first time.

Amongst other attendees, every kids on court were equally very enthusiastic and were ready to learn tennis. I could see the parents were so proud of their kids and much encouragement were received by the children.

Tennis For Kids has such a relaxed environment but structured skills taught by the coaches.

Ethan loves the warm-up circuits. Boy, this kid loves to run! He was able to follow simple instructions from picking up the tennis balls and placing them in its designated place. He was able to whizz round the stumps, zig zagging this way and twisting and jumping over the obstacles. It was rather surprising watching him, seeing what he could do. At the finished line, a well deserved High-Five was given to him from his coach. He was well chuffed.

Another skill Ethan was taught was Team Work. He was paired up with another children. Throwing and catching the balls with their bare hands to each other makes practicing precision perfect. Ethan was a little amiss at first but through practice he was able to catch one or two, which made him very happy.

They then had a challenge of balancing a softer balls well-suited for beginners on their tennis racket. Ethan took sometimes to find his hand-eye co-ordination balance but finally he was able to do Three Circles! He was so proud of himself he ran straight to tell his coach right away!

Before the final finale, the coach show them how to “Bounce & Hit” – from low to high scoop and focusing hitting the ball over the mini-net. Could Ethan hit the balls over the mini court? As it was a small group, we all had a court each, I was feeding him the balls. He missed most of them but on the last final two throws he managed to hit them over net. “Yes!” his cheered himself on. He didn’t even once moaned and gave up so easily like with his other activities – he just kept on trying again and again. I am so proud of him.

Ethan has thoroughly enjoyed his time on court and wanted to continue this. I didn’t hesitate to sign him up on the FREE tennis course this Summer. It was the easiest decision I had ever made.

I think I better brush up on my tennis too, so that I can join in on all of the fun!

Thank you Britmums for the invitation and LTA coaches at the King’s Club for this fantastic day.

Ethan’s verdict was 20 out of 10! Ten being the Best! lol!

Ethan looks like he really enjoyed his session and it’s fabulous that these free courses can help him to expand upon his skills in his area. If he gave it a 20 out of 10 then it’s obviously a winner!

Ethan looks like he enjoyed himself! My children used to love going to Tennis each week…they made lots of friends and of course, so many of the skills are transferable to other sports. Enjoy being a tennis mum….:) #FabFridayPost
