Family Weekend Adventures

Add some action to your weekend with one of these fantastic family friendly weekends. Whether you want to take a spin around a race track or take to the air, there is something for everyone here.

1. Wild swimming

Family Weekend Adventures

Is everyone in the family group a confident swimmer? Get close to nature with some wild swimming. It is important to choose a wild swimming spot that is clean and safe, so use the wild swim map of the UK to help you to select a location. Best of all, this activity is totally free.

2. Go racing with a driving experience

Family Weekend Adventures

These experiences are fantastic as they enable you to drive on professional race tracks and get behind the wheel of some classic cars. On a driving experience, you can drive an Aston Martin, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari all in the same day. This is the perfect weekend adventure for a family of car fanatics. (Hence, it would make a great surprise present for Father’s Day!)

3. Go hiking and conquer the top of a country

Family Weekend Adventures

The UK is home to plentiful national parks, and they are free to enter. When you scale Scafell Pike in the Lake District, Ben Nevis in Scotland and Mount Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park, you will be standing on the highest points in England, Scotland and Wales respectively. Alternatively, simply pick a hiking trail that you are comfortable with, bring a picnic, and spend some quality time together roving through some stunning scenery.

4. Go Canyoning

Family Weekend Adventures

Nothing gets your adrenaline pumping like canyoning, and this is a fantastic way to bond as a family. Whether you all want to take part together or whether some of you prefer to watch and take those essential photos to place on social media for posterity, there is no denying that canyoning will make for a memorable weekend experience for all the family. There are plenty of locations offering canyoning experiences up and down the UK

5. Go on an epic bike ride

Family Weekend Adventures

When the weather is fine, a delightful bike ride is a wonderful way to blow off those cobwebs and enjoy the countryside. What is more, you do not need to pay a penny to take advantage of this option for an action packed weekend with all the family.

Check out the UK’s National Cycle Routes to plan your journey, and make sure to make note of the various landmarks along the way so that you can soak up the scenery. A family bike ride can be as long or as short as you like. Perhaps you want to cycle to the pub for a late afternoon drink, or maybe you want to pack a light tent and some BBQ materials in your panniers and make it a two day adventure.

So which adventures would you like to take on first?

I haven’t heard of canyoning – until now too! Funny isn’t it. But I am so up for it though. I can’t wait till the kids get older too so I can try all these things with them. It will be a great memory to have.

I love hiking through forrests and walking through unknown cities. I found out it is my way off getting rid of excess energy, I don´t like to sit too much 😀

Awesome ideas for when we have bigger kids. Wild swimming sounds great, but I might not indulge whilst I’m living in Africa still. lol
