Cooking with HelloFresh and Giveaway!

“Hello!”

One evening I opened my door to a stranger. Oh – not another sale person. I disclaimed in my heart. He was an Asian man wearing an apron with HelloFresh across his chest. He stood there with a big grin on him in the dark cold evening outside my lonely front door.

“Hello! Do you have a moment Madame?”

“Yes” I decided to give him a chance to explain himself to me as I am usually pretty bad at not giving people chances in their sales pitch – perhaps I can learn a thing or two.

“Great! I just like to do a quick survey about your household food purchasing please. Would that be okay?” He said jollily. I nodded for him to proceed.

“What would you prefer if you purchasing food from the Supermarket store or organic food that costs you the same price and that can be deliver to your door?”

Well – there is no brainer in that is it. Of-course I would go with the organic food being delivered to my door that would costs me the same price. He then show my three lovely looking delicious dishes and asked which I would choose. I naturally went for the prawns one. It was too good not to turn down.

He then showed me that HelloFresh could provide me with a Classic box accompanied three recipe cards – suitable for 2-3 people that contains all the ingredients necessary to produce those particular dishes. Therefore there will be no waste what-so-ever. I am already sold! I hate wasting food and I really dislike queuing up in the busy Supermarket store. As a special offer they offered me some discount for the first two boxes. I do not need to continue if I decided it is not for me. Or that I could also stop the order and restart at anytime – for instance if I go on holiday or something. This can be easily done through HelloFresh App the week before it is due for delivery. Plus I can also choose my three dishes out of five selections provided on the app too, one of which is a Jamie Oliver’s recipe!

The Box

HelloFresh

I thought I gave this a go and see what happens. The first week delivery box got the kids all so excited! The box was packed very well with ice packs and a sheet of hay insulators to keep the meet cool. The vegetables were all nicely packed and fresh.

Actually, I don’t know who is more excited me or the kids but I see this as a really positive way of feeding me children as they already has all the daily nutritions they required in the meal. I usually cook such boring meals and I was so up for a brand new versatile cooking experience.

Ethan also wanted to help me out in the kitchen so I let him. He made us Lamb and Chickpea Curry. I must say he wasn’t too keen on the spinach before, but now he really loves it! I am so very proud of him!

The second meal I decided to go it alone. Pork Chop with Braised Cabbage, Potato Wedges and Cranberry Pistachio Jam. Can’t believe I’ve just cooked this up from scratch! It was very Yummy indeed! I am taken how easy it was to make Cranberry Pistachio Jam. It goes nicely with the Pork Chop.

When the second box arrived, it provided half an hour of entertainment for the kids to draw on them! What I actually needed – a brake from them. haha

After a while they were really engaging with preparing the meals with me. I am so very proud of them. My little helpers!

HelloFresh

This is Garlicky Prawns with Proper Mini Roast Potatoes and Walnut Parsley Pesto. Ethan said that the tomatoes makes the prawns tastes really nice! And I couldn’t agree more. I am so happy that he actually ate the tomatoes!

This is Middle Eastern Spiced Beef Ragout, home cooked by me. Ethan loves how the courgettes were dried pan fried. Again he finished the whole dish! Wow!

Honestly, having HelloFresh box is really is such a headache free. You don’t need to worry about what food to conjure up after a busy day. All the food you prepared and cook are made from scratch. All the ingredients are organic food, great quality and fresh. They provide all the nutritions we need, and calories count as well if you are into that sort of thing. It was lovely tasting all the different dishes which makes dinner so much more entertaining and a focus activity for us all after school. Hence the kids learn so much more than just preparing food alone, they get to practice there dexterity of cutting, pealing, and mixing. Ethan is really good a reading the labels now, so he gets to learn the name of the food and which part of the word his food from from.

HelloFresh

I asked Ethan how much would he give out of 5. Five being top score. He showed me seal of approval there. Evelyn on the other hand was too busy scoffing herself down the delicious food that she and her brother has prepared. lol!

Those meals look great!!! So glad this wasn’t a sponsored post (the cynic in me had been expecting you to say it was!). And cooking with kids – well, always helps to get them eating stuff they might not otherwise eat. As someone said to me recently about their 3-year old, “Even if he only does just one stir, he’s like, ‘yeah I cooked that’ and eats it all!”

I tried Hello Fresh a few years ago- I did like the easy door to door but it did not find it practical for my large, busy family. These meals had to be cooked and I struggled to find the time to make them.

I had a friend try a similar one to this but in Australia and she said it was pretty fab too! Great to see the kids enjoying the box and the food prep #FabFriday

Very interesting. We do not fare well with trying new foods. We have our old reliables and tend to stick to them pretty closely. This is a really neat idea though. Who doesn’t want fresh food delivered to their door for the same price of going out and buying it ourselves?

I love the look of these – I’ve seen them at a foodie show – but I know at the time they couldn’t guarantee a gluten free option at all times which doesn’t work for me. I should really look into whether that’s changed. Your food looks lush! Thanks so much for linking up with us at #DreamTeam and Merry Christmas!

(I am terribly delinquent with checking in….my apologies!)

This looks like a MARVELOUS idea! OH, if my children would eat something other than pepperoni pizza, cafe latte Greek yogurt (weird, huh?) and teriyaki pork tenderloin I’d be in great shape!

I think it’s brilliant that you involve your kids with the food prep. Bet that makes them much more likely to sample it!

Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
